FAQ:What to Expect Before and After Treatment

Botox

  • How long does it take for Botox to work?

You will see the full results of your Botox treatment after approximately two weeks. If any adjustments are desired, they can be scheduled after the two-week period.

  • Are there any side effects of Botox?

It’s possible for bruising, eyelid swelling, and under-eye swelling to occur after Botox treatment. Some patients experience a temporary headache after treatment. If you experience nausea, skin irritation, cold sores, or blemishes in the treatment area, please contact your provider. If you feel that you are having a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or seek immediate medical attention.

  • How can I prepare for my Botox treatment?

Be sure to have a full meal (complete with food and liquids) the morning before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.

It’s advised to avoid alcohol and blood thinners (such as Ibuprofen) before Botox treatment to avoid bruising. Please arrive at the office with a clean face (NO makeup, tinted moisturizer, sunscreen, etc).

As you prepare for treatment, please notify me of any changes to your medical history or health status, including any recent vaccinations or personal activities that may be relevant.

  • What should I do after my Botox treatment?

It’s important to stay in an upright position for at least six hours after treatment. In addition to this, please avoid these activities:

    • No icing of the treated area

    • No exercise for 24 hours after your procedure.

    • No makeup for 24 hours after your procedure.

    • No hats or pressure on the injection point(s) for the remainder of the day.

    • No laser treatments for two weeks after your procedure.

    • No chemical peels or facials for two weeks after your procedure.

    • No micro-needling for two weeks after your procedure.

    • No tanning or tanning beds for two weeks after your procedure.

    • No massages for two weeks after your procedure.

    • Discontinue Retin-A use two days before and 2 days after treatment.

  •  Are there any risks to Botox treatment?

You may not receive treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

In rare cases, distant spread of Botox medication can occur. If you experience difficulty breathing or swallowing, please call 911 or seek immediate medical attention.

Filler

  • How long does it take for filler to work?

It takes two weeks for filler to “settle.” This means that features may look uneven (although they will never truly be even, as one side will always be lower due to natural development). I will discuss this with you before your procedure.

  • Are there any side effects of filler?

It’s normal to have bruising and swelling at the injection areas post-injection and for a few days after. If you experience extreme bruising or swelling, please contact your provider right away.

  • What should I do after my filler treatment?

Please keep the treatment area clean by washing your hands before touching your face for 24 hours following your treatment. Avoid holding objects (including your phone) up to your face until the area has healed.

In addition to this, please avoid these activities:

    • No icing (unless instructed).

    • No travel for 48 hours after treatment.

    • No face makeup for 24 hours.

    • No exercise for 24 hours after your procedure.

  • Are there any risks to filler treatment?

If you have previously suffered from cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to a potential outbreak of cold sores. Please let us know so you can be prescribed antiviral medication before treatment.

In rare cases, filler products can be inadvertently injected into a blood vessel. This can lead to more serious issues such as skin injury or stroke. If you experience extreme pain and swelling, please contact your provider right away. If you feel you are having a medical emergency, please call 911 or seek immediate medical attention.

You may not receive treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you are having an emergency, call 911. If you have any questions, please call or message (714) 856-5189.
